AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:
Pre-JC Volunteers- It is common for newly graduated campers to want to see what it is like to work at camp! We encourage these individuals to apply for a volunteer position which will be the last Thursday-Saturday of camp. While we are very appreciative of the enthusiasm and willingness to help, we cannot offer extended volunteer positions to recently graduated campers (meaning their last year at camp was 1 summer prior to applying for a volunteer position). Those who volunteer in this capacity will assist with activities which will be led by a full-time staff person. Some activities will include setting up for events and coordinating the Viking Olympics.
Camp Counselor or Junior Counselor Volunteers- Someone volunteering in this capacity would be available for either 1 full week or the full camp session (2 weeks). Volunteering as a counselor is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the lives of children and to teach them about their heritage or interest in Norway. Counselors and Junior Counselors serve as role models, friends, and are responsible for the general safety and well being of all the campers. You will serve as part of the camp staff team to assist in planning, coordinating and conducting camp experiences. After pre-camp training, Counselors will supervise all Junior Counselors and Volunteers, and will work together to teach fun hands-on activities about Norway.
Camp Medical Staff Volunteers- Nurses, Doctors, MFCC's, MSW's, LCSW's and LMFT's and certified massage therapists are always needed to serve the medical and therapeutic needs of those attending camp (both staff members and campers).
Program Volunteers- help lead programs at camp or assist in developing programs (i.e. Interessegruppe, Litt av Hvert, Idrett, Spraaktime, Viking Leker, Allsang etc.). Provide program relief, set-up/clean-up of activities and generally assist the Camp Director and Counselors with day-to-day camp operations. Also if you have a special talent such as guitar playing, curriculum developing or orienteering experience, please let us know. We will be able to use your talent in a way that will enhance the programs that we currently have!
Food Service Volunteers- Whether or not you are an experienced cook, we can use you in our kitchen. Our Camp Cook will be working by your side to offer support and instruction as needed. Volunteers in the kitchen may do a variety of tasks depending on interest and ability, which my include; peeling potatoes, chopping produce, following recipes for a variety of homemade baked goods and dishes, serving food, greeting campers, instructing campers in KP duties, taking inventory, stocking deliveries of food, recycling, cleaning, sweeping, mopping, taking out the garbage, and other duties as needed.
Support Volunteers- If you enjoy paperwork, filing, data entry, record-keeping, copying, working on computers, sorting mail or other administrative tasks. Additionally, the camp store (bank, butikk and kiosk) needs volunteers to keep inventory of store items, help sell items and keep the store clean and organized. Volunteers are also need to help supervise the camp grounds and lend additional support as needed.
Housekeeping Volunteers- Getting the camp facilities clean and ready for incoming campers is a huge task, and help is always appreciated. This can include sweeping, mopping, cleaning surfaces, bathrooms, kitchens, restocking paper supplies, washing windows, etc.
